Hades and Persephone are embroidered onto a green foliage printed background on this 12oz black canvas shopper bag with long handles. The bag measures 38cm(w) x 43cm(h) with a 10cm gusset and long handles. The gusset panel is double stitched for strength.
Whilst gathering wild flowers Persephone was abducted by Hades, the god of the Underworld where the dead live. Hades tricked Persephone into staying in the underworld for part of each year. Persephone's mother is Demeter, the goddess of crops and harvest. While Persephone is in the underworld, her mother mourns and refuses to allow crops to grow. This myth obviously explains the yearly cycle of growth, harvest, and winter.
